Postdoctoral Position in Star and Planet formation – Application Deadline January 15th, 2016

The Planet Formation group at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, Rice University seeks to hire a postdoctoral researcher. The successful candidate will work with Prof. Andrea Isella to study planet formation through observations of young stellar objects. Ongoing research activities include infrared, millimeter and radio wave observations of proto-planetary disks, as well as theoretical models for the planet-disk interaction and emission. Candidates with previous experience in millimeter interferometry and/or high-contrast infrared imaging are particularly invited to apply. In addition, we have an on-going research program with the Los Alamos National Laboratory on modeling the co-evolution of protoplanets and their nascent disks. Theoretically/numerically oriented candidates are also highly encouraged to apply.

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Rice University hosts a small but vibrant research program aimed to study the origins of stars and planets. The successful candidate will have access to Rice computational resources and will have the opportunity to collaborate with the group led by Dr. Hui Li at the Los Alamos National Laboratory.

A Ph.D. degree in astronomy, physics, or a related subject by the appointment start is required. The position is initially for two years, with a possibility of re-appointment  for a third additional years depending on performance assessment and funding availability. The appointment is expected to start between May and September 2016.

Applicants should send a curriculum vitae, publication list, and a short statement of research interest (max 2 pages)  by email to Prof. Andrea Isella at isella@rice.edu. Applicants should also arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent by email.  Applications will be accepted until the position is filled, but only those received by January 15, 2016 will be assured full consideration.
